ローマコイン
Roman coins
A total of 10 coins were excavated from the fourth ward of Katsuren Castle site and outside the castle, including coins from the 3rd to 4th century of the Roman Empire and from the Ottoman Empire in the 17th century.
This is the first case in Japan in which Western currency was excavated from ruins.
The background and history of how these coins were brought to Katsuren Gusuku are unknown, and future research is anticipated.
