Onigawara(Japan
There are only a few cases of onigawara (Japanese gargoyle roof tile) having been found in Okinawa Prefecture, and they were excavated at four sites of ruins: Katsuren Castle, Shuri Castle, Urasoe Castle, and Sakiyama Utaki.
These four sites have a large quantity of tile reserves, so it is possible that the onigawara were installed together with the tile roofs of buildings.
They may have been installed on the roofs to ward off evil spirits.
